Game of the Goose

How to play

The Renaissance-era spiral race that helped launch the whole roll-and-move genre. Roll two dice and rush your token along the 63-square spiral to the finish — goose squares fling you onward by the same throw again, the bridge leaps you ahead, but the inn, the well, the maze, the prison and the dreaded death square can all cost you dearly.

Rules

  • Press Roll to throw two dice and move that many squares forward along the spiral.
  • Landing on a 🪿 goose square flies you onward by the same roll again — these can chain several in a row.
  • The 🌉 bridge leaps you straight to square 12; the 🍺 inn, 💧 well and 🔒 prison all cost you turns; the 🌀 maze sends you back to 39 and 💀 death sends you all the way back to the start.
  • You must land on square 63 exactly — overshoot and you bounce back the difference. First to land exactly on 63 wins.

Tips

The goose squares chain, so one lucky throw can carry you across several in a row and swing the board fast in your favour. Near the end, overshooting 63 bounces you backward, so as the finish gets close the exact number on the dice matters more than raw speed.
