The national chess of China, played on the intersections of a 9×10 grid split by a river. Chariots slide like rooks, Horses leap but can be blocked at the leg, Elephants and Advisors are confined to their own half, and Cannons must jump exactly one piece — friend or foe — to capture.
Rules
Tap one of your (red) pieces, then a highlighted point to move it there.
The Chariot slides any distance along a rank or file, like a rook; the Horse leaps in an L-shape but is blocked if the square directly beside it (the "leg") is occupied.
The Elephant jumps exactly two points diagonally and never crosses the river; the Advisor moves one point diagonally and never leaves the palace.
The Cannon slides like a Chariot when not capturing, but must jump exactly one piece — friend or foe — to capture, landing just beyond it.
Capture the AI's General to win. As with this hub's other chess-family games, play continues until the General is actually captured, rather than full check/checkmate detection.
Pick Easy, Medium or Hard next to the game name to change how deep the AI thinks ahead.
Tips
The Cannon is only dangerous with a “screen” piece in front of it — keep at least one piece on each key line so your Cannons always have something to jump over, and watch for the AI setting up the same trick against your General. If the AI plays too fast or too slow for you, the difficulty picker beside the game name changes how many moves ahead it searches.
